FOG undertook a research project from 2009 to 2011 to understand the views of Florida consumers, specialty crop farmers and retailers. The research sought to better understand the most pressing production and marketing issues faced by organic and transitional specialty crop producers, attempting to understand the factors most important to conventional producers in deciding whether to transition to organic management. The research also aimed to understand consumers' attitudes toward organic agriculture. FOG engaged Florida-based retailers to understand their needs and consider the possibilities for creating viable markets for transitional produce. The research establishes an understanding of the attitudes toward organic agriculture, specifically concerning transitional agriculture and market recognitions.
