Florida Organic Growers is accepting applications for its Board of Directors. APPLICATION
Interns have an opportunity to receive hands-on education and experience in organic agriculture, food system development, policy, research, and fair and just food systems. Specific Opportunities:
* Grants Coordinator - Research and write grants, assist in grant management of current projects, maintain grant tracking database. Good writing skills required as well as strong internet and Microsoft Office skills.
* Policy Coordinator - Research policy issues, draft/revise/submit organization comments, assist in writing media pieces to meet specific deliverables for campaigns, participate in planning future efforts with state and national stakeholders related to 2012 Farm Bill, genetically engineered food, Farm to School and other issues. Good writing skills and an interest and knowledge of organic agriculture and healthy and just food systems preferred.
* Development Coordinator - Assist in planning fundraising events including developing sponsorships, coordinating refreshments and entertainment, publicity, working with partners, etc. Prior experience planning events and an outgoing personality helpful.
* Marketing/PR Coordinator - Design print and electronic media, write and distribute press releases, maintain media list, attend outreach opportunities, film workshops and other events. Good writing skills and computer skills preferred including ability to use Adobe Creative Suite programs such as Photoshop, InDesign and Dreamweaver. Knowledge of HTML and CSS, as well as video editing software such as Adobe Premier or Apple FinalCut is a plus.
* Farmers Markets Coordinator - Staff booth at two Alachua County Farmers Markets where FOG accepts EBT/Debit/Credit, complete applicable paperwork following market, assist in special event coordination, conduct outreach for project. An interest and knowledge of community planning, local food systems and desire to assist in increasing food security in Alachua County preferred.
* Garden Coordinator - Want to get dirty? This is the job for you. Maintain garden at Gainesville's City Hall and the Alachua County Administration Building, coordinate with volunteer groups to conduct service learning opportunities, build GIFT Gardens, assist GIFT Garden recipients including residents, churches, schools and other orgs, and assist in developing gardening workshops, tours etc. Horticulture or gardening experience preferred.
* Social Justice - Assist in development and implementation of public education and farmer and buyer tools and materials related to increasing social justice in the food system.
